Research Board

Purpose

The Research Board of four people is an intentionally compact, high level group that creates and maintains visibility of the national importance of trauma and orthopaedic research by focusing on two audiences:

  • External:  promotes and projects influence across all principal players (NIHR, MRC, NICE, AR UK, NJR, centres of academic excellence) with the objective of creating high level support for major trauma and orthopaedic research programmes.  The output here is a plan of engagement that is regularly reviewed.

  • Internal:  maintains, supports and facilitates development of the BOA research agenda through close interaction with the Research Committee, the Trauma Group, Joint Action, APOS, BORS and all Specialist Societies with an interest in research.  The agenda should cover five years and include an education work strand on how to achieve research success.

Membership

The Chair is an elected member of the BOA Council, a member of the Executive Group, is appointed by the BOA President, and will normally be a member of APOS.  Tenure of the Chair will normally be for three years.

Other members of the Research Board include one representative each from the orthopaedic and trauma research communities.  These members are appointed through an open application process.  Tenure of appointment is for two years. The CEO/BOA is an ex officio member of the Board in order to provide resource perspective.

Meetings

The Board normally meets after Council, with most business conducted by e-mail or telephone conference.
