The Sunday Telegraph Supplement on Bones & Joints

The publication, produced by specialist publishers Mediaplanet in collaboration with Joint Action, ARC, ARMA, BIMM and Arthritis Care is one in a series examining the various musculoskeletal conditions that exist and how the multitude of players within the Orthopaedic community have pulled together to find innovative methods of treatment and care for our patients. The supplement discusses the importance of Trauma and Orthopaedic research being the lifeblood of medical advance and you will notice how all the stakeholders within the orthopaedic value chain have come together to make a completely holistic approach, all dedicated to improving the patients outcome, helping to Keep People Mobile.

New Guidance For Elderly Patients With Hip Fractures

Junior BOTA Membership

Following the BOA Council Meeting on 23/2/2010, the BOA Council has now agreed that all qualified doctors at FY1 and above may now apply for Junior Membership of BOTA. This will be administered by the BOA and will entitle these members access to the BOTA website, the BOTA Yearbook, access to the BOA Instructional and BOTA Educational courses as well as other benefits/opportunities that present themselves via BOTA. There will be an invited Junior BOTA Members' representative at each committee meeting to represent the views and concerns of these members.

The cost of membership will be £30 per annum.

Services for People with Rheumatoid Arthritis: Report from the Public Accounts Committee

The Commons Public Accounts Committee has found no improvement since 2003 in the time taken to diagnose and treat this condition which affects 580,000 people in England.

Orthopaedic Help for Haiti - UPDATE - MERLIN APPEAL

Merlin are urgently seeking an orthopaedic surgeon mainly for limb reconstruction to join their team going to Haiti 26th February to 12th March. Please contact MerlinHelp@boa.ac.uk if you can help. Or phone Mr Rannan-Eliya on 0191 282 4656 or 0191 282 9861. Mr Rannan-Eliya is a consultant hand and reconstructive surgeon based at RVI, (Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit) Newcastle. Please note that BOA/ BAPRAS/ MERLIN are looking for ongoing assistance after 26th February so please contact Mr Rannan-Eliya if you are interested in going out at a later date.

Please also note that Brian Kennedy's Haiti Appeal which had appeared on the BOA website has now been called off.

Chris Lavy, BOA Fellow and Chairman of CURE International UK, is appealing for funds for their surgical teams and facilities in Haiti. See his letter below for further details.

The BOA, through the efforts of its internal fundraising function, Joint Action, has been awarded NIHR Partnership Organisation status.

Association of Medical Research Charities approves Grant funding processes
The AMRC has vetted and approved Joint Action's grant management systems and has accepted the BOA to join its exclusive membership.

Joint Action wants to Help Improve Patient Education
Joint Action has launched an initiative with Medical Models Limited targeted to raise in excess of £100,000 for Orthopaedic Research whilst enhancing the cause of improved patient education for hip and knee implant procedures.
