BOA Statement: NHS England Consultation – Managing Conflicts of Interest in the NHS

21st September 2016

We have noted and will be responding to the NHS England consultation document entitled Managing Conflicts of Interest in the NHS – here.

While the BOA fully subscribes to appropriate transparency as a key principle of professionalism for all of the NHS, it is essential that the application of that principle should be equitable.  Our initial view is that to single out and require clinical staff alone to declare their private practice income in the way proposed on page 23 of the consultation document is patently inequitable.

The BOA Council will discuss the consultation document at its meeting on 28 September, after which we will issue a further position statement.
