Multidisciplinary Hip Fracture Review
Trusts whose NHFD data show an above expected mortality rate for patients, are contacted by the NHFD and are invited to have a review of their hip fracture service conducted by an expert review team. The BOA offer Trusts the opportunity for a two day multidisciplinary review, which is led by the BOA Trauma Group.
The BOA’s role is to facilitate the review in the first instance.
The NHFD review lead identifies appropriate experts to assist in the process. Each review team has representatives from:
- British Geriatric Society
- Royal College of Anaesthetists
- Society of Orthopaedic & Trauma Nursing
- Lay representative
The reviews usually take place over two days. Final reports of the reviews may be shared with the NHFD, should they be requested, provided that an agreement is sought from the relevant Trusts prior to the reports being shared.
