Iain McFadyen

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, University Hospitals of North Midlands

Iain McFadyen is an Orthopaedic Trauma and Limb Reconstruction surgeon working in the Major Trauma Centre in Stoke-on-Trent. He was previously the Major Trauma lead in Brighton. He has helped lead the development of guidelines on fractures and major trauma for the National Institute for Care and Health Excellence (NICE) and has helped draft standards in trauma care for the BOA.

Jayne Ward

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire

Jayne Ward qualified from St Barts and the Royal London in 2002. She under took her surgical and orthopaedic training in the Severn Deanery.

She attended a trauma fellowship at the hospital for special surgery in New York, an AO fellowship at Groote Schuur in Cape Town and a reconstructive trauma fellowship at Queen Elizabeth, Birmingham. Since 2014 she has been an orthopaedic trauma consultant at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. Her main interest is open fractures.

She enjoys being an AO chairperson, working with Warwick Medical School and has been on the executive committee for the OTS as education chair.

Andrew Duckworth

Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon , Edinburgh Orthopaedics, Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh

Andrew Duckworth is a Senior Clinical Lecturer in the Usher Institute at the University of Edinburgh and an Honorary Consultant Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon in Edinburgh Orthopaedics at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh.  Following completion of his training in Edinburgh, he was an Upper Limb Fellow at the Wrightington Upper Limb Unit.  His clinical interests are in trauma and upper limb surgery, with a focus on injuries around the elbow, wrist and hand.  His current research includes clinical trials in orthopaedic trauma, large data and patient reported outcome measures.  He is a Co-CI, co-app and PI on NIHR funded clinical trials.  He is an Editorial Board Member for the Bone and Joint Journal (BJJ), Bone and Joint Research (BJR) and Bone & Joint360, and is on the Research Committees of the Orthopaedic Trauma Association (OTA) and the Orthopaedic Trauma Society (OTS).  He is a co-director of the world-renowned Edinburgh International Trauma Symposium.

Michael Kelly

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, North Bristol NHS Trust

Mr Michael Kelly undertook his Orthopaedic training in Edinburgh with a fellowship in Vancouver specialising in trauma.

He was appointed to North Bristol NHS Trust (NBT) in March 2009. His practice is trauma and hip and knee arthroplasty. He also helps lead the Orthoplastics service with Mr. Umraz Khan.

He was President of the OTS in 2020 to 2021.

Jamie Ferguson

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Oxford University Hospitals

Jamie Ferguson is a Limb Reconstruction Expert at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. He works in the Bone Infection Unit at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre and in the Major Trauma Centre at the John Radcliffe Hospital. His practice is in bone infection, limb reconstruction and trauma surgery. Jamie and the team In Oxford are regarded as world leaders in Bone infection research, clinical practice, and teaching.

Steve Borland

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon,

Steve Borland is a Consultant at the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle upon Tyne. He specialises predominantly in orthopaedic trauma, pelvic and acetabular fractures and limb reconstruction. He also maintains an interest in lower limb arthroplasty and osteotomy around the knee. He undertook fellowships at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre and St Michael’s Hospital, Toronto, and at the Russian Ilizarov Scientific Centre, Kurgan, Russia. He has a strong interest in teaching and training. He sits on the regional STC, is faculty on AO and ATLS and holds a masters in medical education from Newcastle University.

Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon,

Pete Bates is an orthopaedic trauma surgeon at the Royal London hospital, the largest and busiest of the capital's Major Trauma Centres He is clinical Lead for orthopaedics and head of orthopaedic trauma. His subspecialty interest is polytrauma and the treatment of pelvic and acetabular fractures. He is honorary senior lecturer at QMUL and lead faculty for the 'Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences' MSc faculty on the internationally renowned 'Trauma Sciences' MSc.

Sunit Patil

Consultant Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon ,

Sunit Patil is a consultant orthopaedic trauma surgeon at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

He trained in the Northern Deanery and undertook trauma fellowships at Edinburgh and Toronto. His clinical interests include pelvic and acetabular fractures, polytrauma, peri-articular fractures and chest trauma. He is also the lead for musculoskeletal sciences at Warwick University for the MBChB course.

Andrew Tasker

Andrew Tasker trained in Severn, completed Fellowships in Shoulder & Elbow surgery in Australia and Trauma in Oxford, before being appointed as a Consultant at Great Western Hospital in Swindon in 2014. His current practice includes the generality of trauma with a specialist interest in complex upper limb trauma and elective conditions. He has a passion for medical education and an interest in the challenges of delivering effective surgical training in the modern NHS. He is currently departmental Medical Education Lead and Postgraduate Tutor for T&O Registrar Teaching in Severn. He an European Trauma Course Instructor and faculty on FRCS (T&O) exam courses.

Philip Henman

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon,

Philip Henman has been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Newcastle upon Tyne since 2001.  He graduated from St Andrews and Manchester Universities and roamed around the country during his training, loosely based in Dundee for specialist training in orthopaedics.  Fellowship training in children’s orthopaedics was divided between Montpellier, Metz, Paris, Adelaide and London before he finally settled to steady employment in the Northeast of England. His consultant post has been a hybrid commitment to orthopaedic trauma care and children’s orthopaedics which come together in an interest in treating children’s musculoskeletal trauma and infections.  He became involved in teaching with AOUK over ten years ago and has been active in teaching on children’s trauma in the UK and overseas since then.

Addie MacGregor

After studying a Masters in Sustainability and Management at Royal Holloway, Addie became ABHI's first Sustainability Executive, joining the Association in 2022 to lead on this critical agenda.

Addie provides support to the membership and works with stakeholders to ensure the role of sustainability within HealthTech is recognised. In managing ABHI's Sustainability Group, Addie is helping the industry to tackle the opportunities and challenges that exist on such a complex topic.

Mr Andrew Kent Lt Col (Rtd.)

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Raigmore Hospital Surgical Lead, UK-Med

Andy is a consultant trauma and orthopaedic surgeon based at Raigmore Hospital, in Inverness. He moved to the Highlands in 2002 having retired from the British Army (RAMC) where his extensive military service included multiple tours in austere and hostile environments. Alongside his busy NHS practice, he has developed a strong interest in training surgeons to deliver trauma care in resource-poor settings. His work with the WHO, AO Trauma, the Primary Trauma Care Foundation, the HALO Trust, UK-Med and the RCSEd has seen him deliver training and working throughout Africa, the Middle East and Far East.

He has taken on a voluntary role as Surgical Lead for UK-Med and the UK Emergency Medical Team reacting to both natural and man-made disasters. He deployed with the UKEMT recce team to Beirut following the explosion in 2020 and has recently led an emergency surgical response to eastern Ukraine following the Russian invasion.

As vice-chair of the Faculty of Remote, Rural & Humanitarian Healthcare (FRRHH) at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, he brings a wealth of clinical experience to the committee with multiple direct links to partners in the humanitarian sector.

He was awarded the Tuanku Muhriz Travelling Fellowship in Rural Surgery and has travelled extensively through Borneo to assess and promote the delivery of pre-hospital trauma care and damage control surgery.

Andy was recently awarded the OBE in the New Year Honours List for services to UK health support overseas, particularly in Ukraine.

Professor Andrew Carr

Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery , University of Oxford

Andrew Carr is the Nuffield Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Oxford and trained at Bristol, Sheffield, Oxford, Seattle and Melbourne. He established the shoulder surgery service in Oxford and is past President of the British Shoulder and Elbow Surgery Society (BESS).

His research has focussed on the development and evaluation of surgical implants. Whilst working with John Goodfellow, he defined the use of the Oxford Knee as a partial knee replacement which has been implanted in over two million people worldwide. With grant support from NIHR, UKRI and the Wellcome Trust his lab has focussed on the role of inflammation in soft tissue healing and the invention of novel nanoscale material implants to improve healing after surgery. He pioneered the importance of patients’ views in assessing the outcome of surgery and the Oxford Scores, which he co-invented are now used globally to assess patient outcomes and direct health policy.  He has improved the infrastructure for clinical trials for orthopaedic surgery in the UK. His work includes the controversial use of placebo controls in surgical trials. He co-founded a Royal College of Surgeons of England Trial Unit in Oxford in 2012. He is author of over 450 publications, including more than 30 in the Lancet, the BMJ, Cell and Nature Biotech, which have been cited over 41,000 times.

Using funds raised from charitable gifts of over £30 million he has led the development of the Botnar Research Institute which now houses over 300 multidisciplinary researchers focussing on clinical trials and bioengineering. He was Director of the NIHR Biomedical Research Unit in Oxford from 2008-2017 and was instrumental in the relocation of the Kennedy Institute for Rheumatology to Oxford in 2013 with an investment of over £60 million from the Kennedy Trust. 

He was a Non-Executive Director (2001-2011) and then Divisional Director of the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre during the formation of Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust (2011-2014). He was a trustee and Deputy Chair of the medical Charity Versus Arthritis from 2002-2011. He is a Nuffield Medical Trustee responsible the Nuffield Benefaction to Oxford University for the Advancement of Medicine. He is Chair of the Nuffield Oxford Hospitals Fund. He was an assessor for the Clinical Medicine sub-panel in the REF 2021.  He is Deputy Chair of Trustees of the University of Bristol. He is a fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and an NIHR Senior Investigator. His awards include an honorary Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Copenhagen, the Robert Jones Gold Medal of the British Orthopaedic Association, a Hunterian professorship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Steindler Award from the USA.

Kate Brown Lieutenant Colonel

Miss Kate Brown graduated from Oxford Medical School in 2002. She trained in orthopaedic surgery in the North East Thames region before obtaining her FRCS (Trauma and Orthopaedics) in 2014.

 

She completed her post CCT Hand Fellowship in Derby and was successful in the British Diploma of Hand Surgery in 2017, prior to being appointed as a Hand Consultant in April 2018. She has a sub-specialist interest in Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Injuries and spent a year at the PNI unit at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore whilst in training. She is a Lt Col in the Armed Forces and has completed tours of duty in Northern Ireland, Iraq, Afghanistan and Mali. She maintains her trauma clinical skills as a Major Trauma Consultant at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. She has completed an MSc (Swansea) in Trauma and MPhil (Newcastle) and has publications in military and hand trauma.

Steve Mannion Surgeon Commander

Steve Mannion, MA MChir DTM&H DMCC FRCS (Tr & Orth) RD is Head of the Department of Conflict and Catastrophe Medicine at St George’s, University of London, combining this with a part time appointments as an NHS consultant orthopaedic surgeon in Blackpool and Preston. For up to 6 months a year he also undertakes orthopaedic education and training projects in the less developed world and has extensive experience in humanitarian surgical projects in conflict areas, including Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and in the 1994 Rwandan genocide. He has established clubfoot treatment projects in many less developed countries and is Medical Director of the Global Clubfoot Initiative. Rob Gregory

Consultant T&O Surgeon, University Hospital of North Durham

A graduate of Newcastle University, Rob's surgical training centred in the Nort East of England and concluded with a Fellowship in Adelaide, Australia. One of the last orthopaedic surgeons appointed to a general orthopaedic consultant post, Rob was able to develop his practice in a way that allowed him to focus on all problems relating to the knee, but in addition he has been able to maintain an interest in general orthopaedic trauma. Whilst Rob has held a number of clinical management roles within his trust, has held an RSPA role, has been a Trustee of the BOA, and is an experienced examiner, his main interest throughout his career has been training and education, this culminating in his recent role as SAC Chair.

Rob is a strong advocate of change being driven with stakeholder consensus using high quality evidence, he has been active in promoting and implementing a policy of Inclusion and Diversity within the specialty, and has promoted an environment of transparency within training.

As he steps back from his senior training role, he is proud to have helped develop a team that will continue to lead by example in its important role of training our future consultant colleagues.

Maneesh Bhatia

Consultant Orthopaedic Foot Ankle Surgeon, University Hospitals Leicester

Maneesh Bhatia is a consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon at University Hospitals Leicester since 2009, Honorary senior lecturer at the University of Leicester, and Clinical Director of Alliance Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland (LLR). He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Foot Ankle Society (EFAS) and a member of the Education Committee of the British Orthopaedic Foot Ankle Society (BOFAS). As part of these roles, he plays a very active involvement in the fields of education and research nationally and internationally. One of his Mentees has won the Young Researcher of the Year award from University Hospitals Leicester this year.

He has edited three books in the last six years and received the British Medical Association (BMA) best book award in 2019 for the publication Bhatia, M. (Ed.). (2019). Musculoskeletal Injections and Alternative Options: A practical guide to ‘what, when, and how?’ He has served as an examiner of the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examination (JCIE) for 10 years. He has also served as a Specialist advisor to NICE (for Achilles rupture and Cartiva) and NIHR.

Matthew Solan

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon,

Matthew Solan graduated from St Thomas’ Hospital Medical School in 1992 and completed surgical training in London, Guildford, Oxford and Dublin. His specialist orthopaedic training was in the South Thames (West) Region. Mr Solan was awarded a British Orthopaedic Association Travelling Fellowship to Dublin and has also worked overseas in South Africa and at the Universities of Johns Hopkins and Baltimore, Maryland, USA.

Rick Brown

Rick Brown graduated from the University of Cambridge and King’s College Hospital, London, before completing orthopaedic training on the Middlesex & Stanmore Rotation, London and then Fellowships in Sydney and at Harvard, USA. After appointment as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2004, he established the new Foot and Ankle Service in Cheltenham and ran a Regional Paediatric Foot Clinic at Bristol Children’s Hospital. In 2016 he was appointed as a Consultant in the Foot & Ankle Team at  The Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford, where his practice covers all areas of Foot & Ankle surgery including sports injuries, neurological conditions, complex forefoot pathology, arthritis and young adult problems. He is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer in Orthopaedic Surgery of  the University of Oxford. Education in Foot & Ankle surgery is his special interest. Fares Haddad is a hip and knee reconstructive surgeon and Professor of Orthopaedics and Sport Surgery at University College Hospitals and The Princess Grace Hospital in London, UK. He is Divisional Clinical Director of Surgical Specialties at UCH, Director of the Institute of Sport, Exercise and Health at University College London, past president of the British Hip Society and of the British Sports Trauma Association. Professor Matthew Costa

Matthew Costa PhD, FRCS, FMedSci. Professor of Orthopaedic Trauma Surgery at the University of Oxford and Honorary Consultant Trauma Surgeon at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
Matt’s research interest is in clinical and cost effectiveness of musculoskeletal trauma interventions. He is Lead Investigator for a series of randomised trials and associated studies supported by grants from the UK National Institute for Health Research (NIHR). His work has been cited widely and informs many guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence.
Matt is the NIHR National Specialty Lead for Trauma and Emergency Care and an NIHR Senior Investigator. He is also Associate Editor for Trauma and Research Methods at The Bone & Joint Journal.
Matt is past President of the UK Orthopaedic Trauma Society and past President of the Global Fragility Fracture Network.

Professor Daniel Perry

Dan specialises in Children’s Hip Disease and Trauma. He trained in Liverpool and Warwick, before completing a fellowship at SickKids Hospital, Toronto, Canada. He was the first orthopaedic surgeon to have been awarded a prestigious NIHR Research Professorship.

Dan’s major research interests are in epidemiology and effectiveness research. He has an international portfolio of clinical trials. He has over >£30m (USD $40 million) in research income, including as Chief Investigator on the NIHR British Orthopaedic Surgery Surveillance (BOSS) Study (Paediatric Hip Disease), NIHR FORCE Study (Simple Wrist Fractures), NIHR SCIENCE Study (Medial Epicondyle Fractures), NIHR CRAFFT Study (Severe Wrist Fractures), NIHR BigBOSS Study (Hip Disease), NIHR BASIS Study (Scoliosis) and the NIHR Odd SOCKS Study (Ankle Fractures). He is currently working Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago (USA) to reproduce UK studies throughout North America, with an NIH R01 grant recently awarded.

Dan supervises several PhD students, and oversees a broad team within the clinical trials unit of biostatisticians, health economists, trial managers and data specialists.

He is a member of the NIHR HTA Commissioning Board and Associate Editor of The Bone & Joint Journal. He also sits on the research committee of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and the research committee of BSCOS (British Society for Children's Orthopaedic Surgery).

Elizabeth Ashby

Elizabeth Ashby is a Paediatric Orthopaedic Consultant. She attended medical school in Cambridge, did her orthopaedic training in London and completed a fellowship in Montreal, Canada. She worked as a consultant at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital before returning to where she started – Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge. She is Clinical Lead for Paediatric Orthopaedics and regional lead for children with clubfeet. Elizabeth enjoys all aspects of Paediatric Orthopaedics with a particular interest in limb and foot deformity.

He is a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Foot Ankle Society (EFAS) and a member of the Education Committee of the British Orthopaedic Foot Ankle Society (BOFAS). As part of these roles, he plays a very active involvement in the fields of education and research nationally and internationally. One of his Mentees has won the Young Researcher of the Year award from University Hospitals Leicester this year.

He has edited three books in the last six years and received the British Medical Association (BMA) best book award in 2019 for the publication Bhatia, M. (Ed.). (2019). Musculoskeletal Injections and Alternative Options: A practical guide to ‘what, when, and how?’ He has served as an examiner of the Joint Committee on Intercollegiate Examination (JCIE) for 10 years. He has also served as a Specialist advisor to NICE (for Achilles rupture and Cartiva) and NIHR.

Robert Clayton moved to Edinburgh in 1994 and graduated in 2000. He undertook Basic and Higher Surgical training in the South East Scotland region. Tim Clough qualified from the University of St Andrews, Scotland and Manchester, completing his orthopaedic training in Canada with an International arthroscopy and sports medicine Fellowship. He is an NHS Consultant at Wrightington Hospital, where his practice consists of ankle arthroplasty and fusions, revisions, complex hindfoot surgery, forefoot reconstruction, sports injuries and arthroscopy. Nadeem Mushtaq is Head of Foot & Ankle Trauma at Imperial College Hospitals, London. Anna Anderson

Anna is a physiotherapist who recently completed a Health Education England (HEE) / National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship focused on developing a ‘Virtual Knee School’ – a novel digital tool that provides pre-operative education and prehabilitation support for patients awaiting total knee replacement. Her key interests include musculoskeletal condition self-management, developing accessible and inclusive health interventions, and qualitative and mixed methods research.  
Since completing her PhD, Anna has remained based at the University of Leeds as a Research Fellow in Qualitative Research. She is currently involved in projects spanning knee replacement, rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and working with groups typically underserved by health research. Anna also co-leads the Leeds Unit for Complex Intervention Development (LUCID) seminar programme.  
Prior to her PhD, Anna worked clinically in a wide range of settings and pursued various research opportunities. These included undertaking a HEE internship, working as a Research Associate on a feasibility study of peer mentorship for osteoarthritis, and helping lead a qualitative study exploring patients’ perceptions of total ankle replacement and ankle fusion surgery.

Professor Tom Kurien

Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon,

Tom is an Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Knee Surgery in Nottingham and a Consultant Orthopaedic Knee Surgeon. He completed his PhD looking at Functional Brain Imaging and pain sensitization in patients with knee OA awaiting TKR Surgery in 2018 which was funded by a prestigious Medical Research Council fellowship. He has been awarded grants from the NIHR and Wellcome Trust and is part of the current BASK Research Committee. His work was awarded the BASK Presidential Gold Medal in 2019 and the New Investigator Recognition Award from the Orthopaedic Research Society in the USA in 2018. 
Tom works within the NIHR BRC and the Versus Arthritis Pain Centre in Nottingham and runs a series of RCTs and trials in knee OA and pain. 
Clinically Tom trained in Nottingham but underwent fellowships in Derby as the Sports Knee Fellow and in Exeter as the Exeter Knee reconstruction unit fellow. He has also undertaken travelling fellowships to Chicago, Mayo clinic and St Louis. His practice centres around sports knee and arthroplasty surgery.

Professor Chris Littlewood

I currently work as a Professor of Musculoskeletal Research at Edge Hill University, UK. I qualified as a physiotherapist in 1998 from the University of Leeds before commencing a clinical career in the NHS and private sector. During this time I undertook a Master’s in Health Services Research at the University of Sheffield before being awarded a National Institute for Health Research Fellowship to undertake a PhD.

Dr Ben Smith is a Clinical Research Physiotherapist based at the University Hospitals of Derby and Burton where he works as AHP Clinical Academic Lead, with Honorary Assistant Professor at the University of Nottingham.
 
In 2016 he won a prestigious Department of Health Fellowship to conduct a PhD at the University of Nottingham related to the assessment and management of patellofemoral pain in young adults, particularly concerning exercise prescription, the role of pain-related fear and pain during exercise. Ben was a member of the International Patellofemoral Research Network (iPFRN) steering committee for their 2019 consensus statement on psychological and pain features of patellofemoral pain. 
 
Ben has held three NIHR/HEE Fellowships and his research interests includes the management of persistent MSK pain and the role of exercise and physical activity in prevention and treatment.

Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon ,

Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon and Honorary Senior Lecturer at Leeds Teaching Hospitals since 2002, having completed surgical training in Bath and Bristol and following fellowship training in the Ilizarov method at the Ilizarov Scientific Centre in Kurgan, Russia.

My clinical practice includes the treatment of severe lower limb fractures and post-traumatic limb reconstruction including non-union, mal-union and deformity, limb length inequality, bone loss and amputation.

Jayne Ward

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire

Jayne Ward qualified from St Barts and the Royal London in 2002. She under took her surgical and orthopaedic training in the Severn Deanery.

She attended a trauma fellowship at the hospital for special surgery in New York, an AO fellowship at Groote Schuur in Cape Town and a reconstructive trauma fellowship at Queen Elizabeth, Birmingham. Since 2014 she has been an orthopaedic trauma consultant at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire. Her main interest is open fractures.

She enjoys being an AO chairperson, working with Warwick Medical School and has been on the executive committee for the OTS as education chair.

Alex Trompeter

Alex Trompeter works at St George’s University Hospital in London and holds the position of Honorary Reader in Orthopaedic Surgery at St George’s University of London. His specific clinical interests are the management of complex fractures, bone infection, non-union, deformity correction and limb lengthening. He works closely with plastic surgeons for many cases. He has a regular ortho-plastic-microbiology MDT clinic as well as delivering the region’s amputation service.

He was awarded the Braun travelling fellowship to the Massachusetts General Hospital, USA, by the British Orthopaedic Association, and a travelling fellowship to the Oxford Bone Infection Unit by the British Limb Reconstruction Society.

Alex is actively involved in education locally, nationally and internationally. He regularly teaches and lectures in his specialist areas. He is Training Program Director for the South West London Orthopaedic Rotation, sits on the BLRS Research Committee and the BOA Clinical Standards Committee (responsible for producing BOASTS). Don McBride has been a full time Consultant Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgeon at the University Hospital of North Midlands, Stoke on Trent UK for 25 years. He has been involved with undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at Keele University and at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Memorial Hospital, Oswestry. He has research interests across the field of Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Surgery. He was previously President of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (2006) and is currently a co-opted Council member as their EFAS Representative (2010-23). Kristy Weber MD

University of Pennsylvania

Kristy Weber, MD is the Abramson Family Professor in Sarcoma Care Excellence in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Pennsylvania (Penn). Dr. Weber completed her orthopaedic residency training at the University of Iowa followed by a 2 year research/clinical fellowship in orthopaedic oncology at the Mayo Clinic. She initially joined the faculty at University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and developed a robust orthopaedic oncology practice and a basic science research program related using murine models to characterize biologic mechanisms and targeted treatments of sarcoma and renal cell carcinoma metastases. Five years later, Dr. Weber was recruited to Johns Hopkins as Chief of Orthopaedic Oncology and Director of the Sarcoma Program. She co-directed an externally funded laboratory focused on breast and renal cell carcinoma metastasis to bone, and her team received the Kappa Delta national orthopaedic research award for this work. Dr. Weber was recruited to Penn in 2013 to serve as Vice-Chair of Faculty Affairs in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Director of the Sarcoma Program in the Abramson Cancer Center (ACC). She leads the continued growth of a high quality, multidisciplinary clinical sarcoma team as well as the development of a collaborative scientific team focused on targeted treatments for sarcoma across Penn Medicine, Penn Veterinary Medicine, and the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). Her clinical excellence and professionalism has been recognized by selection for both the Penn Academy of Master Clinicians and the inaugural Duncan van Dusen Professionalism Faculty Award.

Dr. Weber is a recognized national and international leader who has served on Boards of Directors of orthopaedic and cancer organizations including the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA), the Orthopaedic Research Society (ORS), and the Connective Tissue Oncology Society. She has served as President of the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society (MSTS) and the Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society (RJOS), Secretary of the Orthopaedic Research Society and Critical Issues Chair on the AOA Executive Committee. She spent four years as Chair of the AAOS Council on Research and Quality where she led or provided oversight for a portfolio that included clinical practice guidelines, evidence-based medicine, appropriate use criteria, patient safety, biomedical engineering, biological implants and the development of orthopaedic clinician-scientists. Dr Caroline Miller

Specialist Upper limb Physiotherapist  and Clinical Academic Lead

Dr Caroline Miller is a clinical academic specialist physiotherapist in trauma and musculoskeletal care at University Hospitals Birmingham (UHB). She has recently completed a Health Education England / National Institute of Health Research Clinical Doctoral Research Fellowship. During this time she worked with  patients , therapists and surgeons to develop an international core outcome set for adults with brachial plexus injury. She has published widely in trauma and upper limb focusing on patient priorities and rehabilitation needs in this area. 
She currently sits on the steering group for the James Lind Alliance Priority Setting Partnership for traumatic brachial plexus injuries and is completing a post-doctoral fellowship funded by NIHR CRN West Midlands.
