Course descriptionRandomised clinical trials use robust methodology to ensure that drugs, devices and other interventions are subject to a fair test of their effectiveness. Before designing a clinical trial, it may be necessary to complete preliminary research, to assess whether a clinical trial is needed and to ensure the most appropriate design to address the research question. 

Course content: defining your research question; different NIHR funding programmes; patient and public involvement; economic evaluation of interventions; working with a CTU.

Eligibility: BOA members who are post-CCT or within one year of obtaining CCT; prior research experience at level of postgraduate research degree or some experience of applying for research funding as co- or lead-investigator; seeking to develop a clinical trial application to a major funder as a first-time chief investigator.
