NHS England 'Evidence-based interventions': patient information
During 2018, NHS England produced new guidance on seven orthopaedic procedures as part of a programme called ‘Evidence-based interventions’. The BOA contributed to the development of this guidance, alongside several societies representing subspecialist interests within orthopaedics.
The orthopaedic procedures covered were:
- Back pain: Injections for non-specific low back pain without sciatica
- Knee: Knee arthroscopy for patients with osteoarthritis
- Shoulder: Arthroscopic shoulder decompression for subacromial shoulder pain
- Hands:
- Carpal tunnel syndrome release
- Dupuytren’s contracture release
- Ganglion excision
- Trigger finger release
NHS England have produced materials aimed at patients about each of these procedures, including leaflets and videos, which can be found here: https://www.england.nhs.uk/evidence-based-interventions/resources/
