As a medical student, growth and function fascinated me, and so I became a paediatric orthopaedic surgeon. I enjoy clinical work, research and teaching, and I remain a committed trainer despite the current challenges. I am a past president of both EPOS and the BOA and current president of IODA (International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance).
I enjoy writing and have contributed to numerous book chapters and authored many papers. As BOA President in 2023, I was at the forefront of developing and maintaining innovative and sustainable solutions for training, research and clinical care with diversity, inclusion and equity at the forefront of our plans: but all these do require engagement! I continue to pursue these interests and try to ‘make a difference’!

Alexander Schade

ST7 Trauma and Orthopaedic Registrar, University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire

Alex is an ST7 Orthopaedic Trainee in the West Midlands and a researcher in global surgery. He holds a PhD funded by the Wellcome Trust (published in The Lancet Global Health) and an MPH from the University of Warwick. Having worked extensively in trauma units across Uganda, Cambodia, and Malawi, Alex’s research focuses on trauma networks, cost-effective interventions, and health policy implementation to reduce injury-related disability. He aims to pursue an academic career in paediatric orthopaedics. He will deliver his Hunterian Lecture on improving outcomes for open tibia fractures in low-income countries.

Ken To

Fellow and Director of Studies, Trinity College, Cambridge

Ken obtained his medical degree and studied for a PhD funded by an MRC Clinical Research Training Fellowship at the University of Cambridge where he was also appointed as an NIHR Clinical Lecturer. His Arris and Gale Lecture is on his work about human skeletal development, through the lens of genomic technologies. Ken is also a Fellow and Director of Studies in Medicine at Trinity College, Cambridge. 

 

Ronald M Y Wong

Dr. Wong is a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics & Traumatology, the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), in which he was promoted with early tenure. He obtained his Bachelor of Computing (Honors; SSP Biomedical Computing) at Queen's University, Canada and Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at CUHK. He also earned a Doctor of Philosophy in Orthopaedics & Traumatology and Doctor of Medicine from CUHK. He is currently a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. Upon obtaining his Fellowship, he was awarded the Sir Harry Fang Gold Medal for the HKCOS-RCSE Joint Specialty Fellowship Examination. Dr. Wong has published > 120 international peer-reviewed journals and has obtained numerous competitive grants as PI/Co-PI.
Dr. Wong has won many research awards including the Gold Medal from International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva.  He is currently President-Elect of Osteosynthesis and Trauma Care Foundation, President of Asian Association for Dynamic Osteosynthesis and President of Fragility Fracture Network Hong Kong SAR. He is also Scientific Committee Chair-Elect for the global Fragility Fracture Network (FFN). Dr. Wong pioneered Hong Kong's first robotic-assisted fracture reduction and fixation surgeries, debuting the advanced technique on pelvic fractures. His major research interests are in Fragility Fractures, Osteoporosis, and Sarcopenia.
