Mazhar Iqbal

Consultant Neurosurgeon

Mr. Iqbal is a highly experienced Consultant Neurosurgeon and Spine Surgeon who specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the brain, spine, and nervous system. With over 20 years of experience in leading hospitals across Ireland and the UK, Mr. Iqbal has developed expertise in complex spinal surgery, minimally invasive techniques, and neuro-oncology (the surgical management of brain and spinal tumours). Mr. Iqbal graduated from the University of Dundee. He trained in Neurosurgery the UK and is on the Specialist Register with both the Irish Medical Council and the General Medical Council (UK). He completed his Fellowship training in Complex Spine Surgery with both ortho-spine and neuro-spine teams at Salford Royal Hospital. Known for his calm, patient-focused approach, Mr. Iqbal combines advanced surgical expertise with clear communication and compassion. He works closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide safe, high-quality care tailored to each patient’s needs.
Special Interests 
His areas of interest are complex spine instrumentation surgery, minimally invasive surgery using multi-modality intra-op 3D navigation, degenerative spine disorders, spinal tumours and peripheral nerve decompression surgery  
Clinical Research & Professional Memberships 
Outside of his clinical work, he is actively involved in teaching and research and lectures at University College Cork. He has presented and published internationally on topics such as spinal surgery outcomes and neurosurgical techniques. 

Thomas Dekker

Spinal Specialist Physiotherapist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, and PhD Candidate

Thomas is a Spinal Specialist Physiotherapist with a special 
interest in the rehabilitation of patients with spinal pain. He is actively involved in research having co-authored a number of peer reviewed studies on spinal function and pain. He is also a passionate educator and teaches internationally in the area of spinal rehabilitation. Thomas spent over 10 years in the UK working in multiple sectors including the NHS before moving into private practice on Harley Street and consulting at the English Institute of Sport. He now works as a Spinal Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist within the neurosurgery team at Cork University Hospital, Ireland,  working alongside the team of neurosurgeons while maintaining a rehabilitation caseload of patients with complex spinal pain both publicly and privately. He holds a degree in Physiology, a Master's in Physiotherapy from the University of East Anglia, and a Master's in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy from the University of Queensland, Australia and has just finished his PhD investigating back pain in athletes.
