Professor Amar Rangan
Vice President, British Orthopaedic Association
Prof Amar Rangan holds the Mary Kinross Trust and Royal College of Surgeons Chair at Hull York Medical School (HYMS) and Department of Health Sciences, University of York.
He is a specialist shoulder and elbow surgeon at South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in Middlesbrough, providing district and tertiary services in his specialty.
He also holds a full professorship with the faculty of medical sciences and NDORMS, University of Oxford.
Amar has held key national leadership roles: President of the British Elbow and Shoulder Society, trustee of the British Orthopaedic Association, and surgeon member of the National Joint Registry Steering Committee.
Amar is a designated supervisor for HYMS integrated academic training and supervises pre-doctoral and doctoral studentships.
He is fellowship director for the nationally accredited shoulder and elbow fellowship at South Tees Hospitals and is course director for the postgraduate MCh(Orth) programme in Teesside.
Amar leads a programme of clinical and translational research, including NIHR funded multi-centre clinical trials.
He has published widely in trauma and orthopaedics, particularly in shoulder and elbow surgery, where his work has influenced clinical practice, national guidelines, and policy.
He is chair of MedConnectNorth and is a member of the NIHR i4i Challenge Awards Committee.

David Lawson
Policy Lead for Medical Technology & Innovation
Policy lead for Medical Technology & Innovation with responsibility for the implementation of the Government's inaugural Medical Technology Strategy published February 2023 and delivery of commitments under the 10 Year Health Plan and Life Science Sector Plan published July 2025 to support adoption and reduce procurement friction. Key initiatives include National Health Access Programme to provide a national adoption route using NICE technology assessment referrals, Value Based Procurement Standard Guidance to shift focus to outcomes and impact when assessing technology, Innovation Passporting to reduce duplication and speed up decision-making, and development of Disclosure of Industry Payments Guidance to improve transparency. Former Chief Procurement Officer at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust – a position held for 21 years – and double winner of the Supply Chain Excellence Award in 2008 and 2021.

Alex Liddle
Consultant Surgeon/Clinical Senior Lecturer, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust/MSK Lab, Imperial College London
Alex is a consultant hip and knee surgeon at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Clinical Associate Professor at Imperial College. His clinical practice revolves around partial, total and revision knee replacement, hip resurfacing, primary and revision hip replacement. His research focusses on improving outcomes and preventing complications of joint replacement, including work on optimising fixation in cementless implants, interventions to prevent and treat prosthetic joint infection, and use of routinely collected data to improve patient selection and surgical practice. He is Surgical Speciality Lead for elective orthopaedics at the Royal College of Surgeons of England, sits on the research committee of the British Orthopaedic Association, and is Chief Medical Officer of Osstec, an Imperial spinout company developing implants based on novel cementless lattice technologies.
