Room: Room 3A

BOA Session

Session Title: Elective Orthopaedics and the Independent Sector (IS)

Session Description: In this session we will detail elective orthopaedic care activities and challenges, both present and future, in the Independent Sector.

In the first section, we will update colleagues on their responsibilities under the CMA ruling. We will hear from one of the largest providers how elective orthopaedic care is and will likely continue to be provided in this increasingly important environment. We will discuss how patient choice and referral pathways, as well as surgeon recognition has influenced the sector. We will investigate the training opportunities the Independent Sector can represent and how they can be accessed. We hope colleagues will be keen to ask questions and contribute to a lively discussion and have allocated time accordingly.

In the second section, we will look to identify how best BOA members can be made aware of activities and challenges in the IS, as well as how their opinions and interests are best represented. We will hear from those working both to optimise patient care and experience in the Independent Sector, while voicing and supporting medical opinion.

We hope the session will allow BOA members and colleagues to demonstrate how they would wish their opinions to be represented.
