Sporting Injuries in Children: Managing the Growing Athlete

Participation in organised sport among children and adolescents continues to rise, bringing an increasing incidence of acute and overuse injuries in skeletally immature athletes. Management differs significantly from adult practice due to open physes, unique injury patterns, parental demands and the potential long-term consequences of treatment decisions made during growth.
This BOSTAA session will provide practical, evidence-based guidance on the assessment and management of common paediatric sporting injuries encountered by orthopaedic surgeons and will highlight contemporary surgical and non-operative strategies and discuss safe return-to-sport principles for the growing athlete.
