Jim McVie

Started as consultant in 2004 in Darlington Memorial Hospital and moved to South Tees NHS Foundation Trust in 2009. Specialist interests are complex upper limb trauma, management of upper limb non-unions / infection and general trauma.  Undergraduate lead 1st to 3rd year Newcastle Medical Students in South Tees LEP since 2022 and on educational committee of Orthopaedic Trauma Society since 2021.  

Joydeep Sinha

Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon, King’s College Hospital

Mr Joydeep Sinha is a Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon at King’s College Hospital, London , the SE London MTC. He has a specialist interest in arthroscopic shoulder and elbow surgery, shoulder replacement, sports injuries, and upper limb trauma. He is a Senior Lecturer, KCL, London involved in Undergraduate and Postgraduate Teaching, and as well as Research interests in Shoulder and Elbow Surgery, is involved in evaluating Value Based Healthcare and using AI in Orthopaedics. He is heavily involved in the KHP Surgical Fellowship Programme, RCS Surgical Innovation Hub, the LIHE at KCL , and is involved in the BESS Education Committee.

Anton Julyan

Past President, South African Orthopaedic Association

Dr Anton Julyan is an orthopaedic surgeon with a subspecialty interest in shoulder surgery and reconstructive procedures. He obtained his undergraduate medical degree from the University of 
Pretoria in 1996 and completed his Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery (MMed (Orth)) at the same institution in 2006. Following specialist qualification, Dr Julyan served as a consultant in the Upper Limb Unit at 1 Military Hospital, where he underwent advanced fellowship-style training under the mentorship of Professor Theo le Roux. In 2008, he established his full-time private practice and has since accumulated more than 18 years of specialist experience, with a clinical focus on shoulder reconstruction, arthroscopy, and joint replacement surgery. He also maintained an active role in orthopaedic trauma services for many years.

Dr Julyan has remained committed to academic and professional development through regular participation in international congresses, advanced surgical workshops, and international observerships focused on shoulder pathology and reconstructive surgery. He is actively involved in the education and mentorship of orthopaedic surgeons, particularly in arthroscopic techniques and modern shoulder surgery. His comprehensive surgical training includes extensive experience in primary and revision joint arthroplasty, having trained with Professor B.G.P. Lindeque and Professor T.L.B. le Roux across the fields of shoulder, knee, hip, and hand surgery. His practice integrates contemporary evidence-based techniques with advanced technologies to optimise patient outcomes.

An early adopter of robotic-assisted orthopaedic surgery, Dr Julyan has more than three years' experience in robotic knee arthroplasty and completed advanced MAKO robotic shoulder arthroplasty training in the United States in 2025. He currently practises at Pretoria East Hospital, which has been established as a recognised training centre for MAKO robotic shoulder arthroplasty and augmented reality (ARVIS)-assisted surgical procedures.

Beyond his clinical practice, Dr Julyan has made substantial contributions to the advancement of orthopaedic surgery in South Africa through professional leadership and service. He currently serves as President of the South African Orthopaedic Association (SAOA), having previously served on its Executive Committee for eight years. In this capacity, he has played a key role in promoting excellence in orthopaedic education, professional standards, and the advancement of 
patient care nationally. His professional interests include shoulder arthroscopy, reconstructive shoulder surgery,  robotic-assisted arthroplasty, orthopaedic education, and the implementation of emerging surgical technologies in clinical practice

Livio Di Mascio

Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon (Upper Limb Surgery), Barts Health NHS Trust

Livio Di Mascio has been an upper limb consultant at Barts Health NHS Trust for over 15 years and is a highly experienced and talented surgeon. 
His practice includes both trauma and elective surgery and, working in Europe’s leading level-1 trauma centre, his expertise include managing complex injuries from scapula to finger-tip, as well as polytrauma. 
Electively, he treats a wide variety of shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand conditions with open and arthroscopic techniques. 
As a trainer, he is prolific, having won trainer of the year on multiple occasions and he is regularly an invited speaker at a number of high-level upper limb educational events.

Ananth Ebinesan

Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon (Shoulder & Elbow), Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust

Ananth Ebinesan holds the position of Consultant Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT), where he specialises in complex shoulder reconstruction and trauma management at the MTC. He previously served as Clinical Director for Trauma and Orthopaedics and currently holds the role of Associate Chief Medical Officer (Electives) at MFT. Ananth contributes his expertise as a specialist advisory panel member for NICE and has actively participated in NICE guideline committees. Additionally, he has participated in the accreditation inspection process for GIRFT elective surgical hubs nationally. He is an active BESS member and currently sits on council, serving as the Honorary Secretary

 

Andrew Gray

President Elect for the UK Orthopaedic Trauma Society, James Cook University Hospital

Andrew Gray's main orthopaedic specialist interest is trauma. He is based at James Cook University Hospital major trauma centre; current president elect for the UK Orthopaedic Trauma Society (Orthopaedic Trauma Society) and a trustee for the British Orthopaedic Association.  He completed his medical and orthopaedic training in Glasgow, Oxford and Edinburgh, finishing an MD and also a year's trauma fellowship in Calgary. Mr Gray has been a major trauma consultant for 17 years and the lower limb trauma editor for the journal 'Injury' 2014-2021.  Over the past 5 years he has worked with the global and UK Fragility Fracture Networks (Home - Fragility Fracture Network) focusing on the 4 pillars of fragility fracture management - acute care, rehabilitation, secondary fracture prevention and policy. He co-chairs the Fracture Liaison Service Academy Network (FLS Academy & Network (FAN) Community - login) and is committed to championing Fracture Liaison Services.

Andrew Tasker

Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant, Southmead Hospital, Bristol

Andrew Tasker is a Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant based at Southmead Hospital, Bristol.

He was appointed as a Consultant in 2014 and has been in full-time practice since. He has a passion for medical education and an interest in the challenges of delivering safe, effective surgical training in the modern healthcare system. Having been departmental Medical Education Lead and subsequently Postgraduate Tutor for Severn Deanery Orthopaedic Registrar Teaching, he is currently Training Programme Director for Trauma & Orthopaedics in Severn. He is a European Trauma Course Instructor and faculty on FRCS (T&O) pre-Consultant exam courses.
He is committed to evidence based practice and has been a principle investigator for his trust on national multi centre Orthopaedic trials. As part of his commitment to ensuring the highest standards of patient care and surgical practice, he has served on the executive for the Orthopaedic Trauma Society from 2021 to 2024 , and a special interest in managing Shoulder and Elbow Trauma.

Niel Kang

I am a Consultant Shoulder & Elbow Surgeon and Clinical Director for MSK at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I have over 14 years of consultant experience, with clinical and research interests in upper limb trauma, including the changing face of proximal humeral fractures. My approach has been shaped by the shift from fixation-focused surgery towards evidence-based, patient-centred care. A former BIOS Travelling Fellow, including time spent in Mumbai in 2010, I remain passionate about international collaboration, surgical education and mentorship through simulation, cadaveric and digital learning platforms.
