14.45 - 15:00: Introductions
Background to SuppoRTT and tips to manage returning to work
15:00 - 16:00: Discussion - Concerns and Experiences including:
- Trauma re familiarisation
- Opportunities to practise before returning to theatre
- Decision Making in Trauma scenarios
16:00 - 16:15: Mock Trauma Meeting
- Trauma scenarios
- On call scenarios
- Theatre planning, implants and prioritisation

- The thing/s you are ‘dreading’
- How you are planning to ease your return and strategies to overcome difficulties
- If you have returned to training previously, any tips you’d like to share with the group

Shirley Chan
Consultant in General & Colorectal surgery, Medway NHS Foundation Trust
Shirley Chan is a General and Colorectal Surgeon at Medway NHS Foundation Trust, Kent. She is Return to Training and Trainee Support lead for Kent, Surrey & Sussex School of Surgery, an examiner for Intercollegiate MRCS and Member of the General Surgery SAC. She has been running the T&O Return to Training workshop since 2019. In 2024, this became a national workshop in association with the BOA and RCS Grassroots scheme.

Rebecca Mills
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon, Dorset County NHS Foundation Trust
Rebecca Mills is a Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon at Dorset County Hospital with a specialist interest in Hand & Wrist surgery.
Rebecca graduated from University of Oxford in 2010, completed Foundation Training in Oxford, Core Surgical Training in London and Specialist Orthopaedic Training in Sussex and Kent. During training she was awarded the prestigious Radcliffe Travelling Fellowship to undertake out of programme research at the Orthopaedic Research and Biotechnology Institute, Westmead, Sydney. Rebecca completed a competitive Training Interface Group (TIG) fellowship in Hand & Wrist Surgery at Bristol and Bath before taking up her Consultant post in 2023.
Rebecca was a 2023/4 RCS Emerging Leader and has recently been appointed Surgical Tutor at Dorset County Hospital. She has supported the T&O Return to Training workshops since 2023.
