Visa Cap Affecting Fellowships of Overseas Orthopaedic Surgeons

5 June 2018 - The BOA is supporting the call for lifting the cap on visa restrictions to allow more doctors to work in the UK.  Historically many overseas orthopaedic and trauma surgeons particularly from the commonwealth countries have come to UK.  

The BOA is supporting the call for lifting the cap on visa restrictions to allow more doctors to work in the UK.  Historically many overseas orthopaedic and trauma surgeons particularly from the commonwealth countries have come to UK.  

More than any other speciality, orthopaedics and trauma have established robust fellowship opportunities at various stages of training, making it possible to reduce the excessive hours that trainees can be asked to work and making sure that patients are admitted to hospitals that have appropriate levels of care for O&T patients.  The BMJ has instigated a petition calling on the Government to remove the visa cap for doctors here.
