The programme features leading specialists in shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand surgery, providing in-depth instruction on the anatomy, basic science, pathology and management of the upper limb. It includes three days of dedicated lecture sessions for each topic, with interactive discussion and Q&A sessions. Participants will also have the opportunity to engage in mock viva questions specifically focused on the upper limb.

This course, offered in partnership with the Orthopaedic Academy, is tailored for candidates preparing for the part 2 FRCS (Orth) examinations or equivalent. It focuses entirely on mock viva and clinical stations, providing an opportunity to refine knowledge, practice exam techniques, and resolve any uncertainties with the help of an experienced UK-based faculty. To ensure an optimal learning experience, candidates will be divided into small groups of two participants and will rotate through various workstations. Each workstation will have at least two faculty members, ensuring a 1:1 teaching ratio.

It is targeted at trainees in the early stages of their training and those preparing for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examination. Additionally, it is suitable for practicing consultant orthopaedic surgeons who want to refresh their knowledge in orthopaedic basic sciences. The course offers a thorough update on all topics relevant to the examination and clinical practice. It features interactive lectures and mock vivas, giving participants the opportunity to both acquire knowledge and improve their examination skills.

The session will include presentation from the key contributors to the new GIRFT Greener Pathways A practical guide to decarbonising the total hip replacement pathway - Dr Joseph John, Dr Simon Lambracos and Dr Jonathan Evans. You will also hear a practical case study of Northumbria’s experience of day case/day one discharge hip surgery and learn about the role of trainees in the guidance development and implementation.

What: This is a 2-day accredited hand fixation workshop in combination with Medartis aimed at plastic and orthopaedic consultants and trainees who deal with hand fractures. (Please note that the course is followed by a 1-day wrist fixation workshop on 20 March). The faculty consist of national and international hand surgeons, with a high faculty to delegate ratio. The course will consist of a balanced mix of lectures, practical sessions (using saw bones) and discussion groups. Topics covered during the 2 days include: K-wires in fracture fixation Surgical approaches to the hand: metacarpal and phalanges Condylar fractures Locking plates Rolando fractures The course fee includes lunch, online course materials and an evening meal.
