Rajesh Nanda is a keen educationist working as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at University Hospital of North Tees & Hartlepool since 2010. With Subspecialty interest in Shoulder and Elbow surgery. He is, affiliated as an Honorary Professor to the Teesside University. A member of BOA Education & Careers committee.

Has a postgraduate certificate in Clinical Education, Fellowship of Northeast Leadership Academy and completed Education Leadership programme for surgeons (RCS England). He is a Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers of RCS Edinburgh. He is on the panel of Examiners for the FRCS(T&O).

Organises annual orthopaedic basic science course; shoulder and elbow symposium for physiotherapists and allied health professionals; joint injection courses for GP’s; invited faculty to Orthopaedic courses. He has been a member of BESS Education committee and a present member of BIOS education committee. Organises the MCh Orthopaedics course from Teesside University.

Rajesh is a college tutor and trainer for ST / CT trainees and offers SSC for medical students. He is involved in local and regional teaching programmes, ARCP panels and regional STC. Rajesh is the Guardian of safe working for doctors in training at his trust and he has an active research interest and is reviewer for BJJ and Shoulder & Elbow Journal.

Paul is an active member of several orthopaedic associations and societies including the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA), British Hip Society (BHS) and British trauma society (BTS). He is fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, Edinburgh and Glasgow

He has a strong commitment to teaching, training and education. He is a member of the regional STC panel; fully accredited ST3+trainer; regularly attend the ARCP process for ST3+ trainees and a regular interviewer for the national appointments process at ST3 level. In addition, he is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators and have a Masters degree in Medical Education.

Paul has been an ATLS instructor for 8 years and regularly instruct on various courses both at a local and regional setting. he is also the main editor and author for three FRCS (Tr&Orth) related exam books. These are international best sellers and were highly commended at the BMA book awards in 2017.

He runs an annual 6-day intensive FRCS (Tr&Orth) revision course at Northumbria University and QEH Gateshead and an annual international revision course

Paul is also a visiting professor at Northumbria University which acts as an interface between the academic roles Northumbria University provides and his own clinical oriented background that provides a practical focus for research.

Fazal Ali did his MBBS in Jamaica and Orthopaedic training in Sheffield, UK with a Knee Fellowship in Newcastle and a short Trauma Fellowship in New York. He has a special interest in sports injuries to the knee, both in adults and in children. He is a consultant at Chesterfield Royal Hospital and the Sheffield Children’s Hospital where he has helped set up a national referral service for knee problems in children which is the only service in the UK that regularly manages sporting injuries and  congenital knee disorders.

He is a former OrthopaedicTraining Programme Director (TPD) for South Yorkshire and is presently the President of BOSTAA (Britsh Orthopaedic Sports Trauma and Arthroscopy Association).

He has published more than 70 scientific papers and chapters and given numerous invited lectures on training issues and knee surgery both nationally and internationally. He has edited ‘Examination Techniques in Orthopaedics’ (Cambridge University Press) which is a best-selling orthopaedic text in its 3^rd edition and was recently published in Chinese. He is co-editing two further textbooks, ‘Postgraduate Orthopaedic Clinics’ (CRC Press), due to be released in 2026 and ‘Child and Adolescent Knee Surgery’ (Springer) which is in progress.

Fazal Ali was voted ‘Trainer of the Year’ on six occasions across 2 training rotations. As such, he was given a life-time award for training by South Yorkshire in 2014. In 2017 he was again honoured by the South Yorkshire Orthopaedic Training Rotation with the creation of an annual award: The ‘Fazal Ali Award for Academic Excellence’.

He serves as a senior examiner and assessor for the FRCS(Tr&Orth) examination. He is past-Chair of  Section 1 exam of all ten surgical specialities and sits on the JCIE and T&O Boards. He is also Chair of the International FRCS exam and serves on the board of examiners in multiple developing world countries with the view that this would help advance the standard of orthopaedic training and care in those countries.

Mr Anderton studied medicine at The University of Manchester Medical School (2001–2006). Following this, he completed the North West Trauma and Orthopaedic registrar program in 2017. Further specialist international training was then obtained in Munich and Adelaide.

He was awarded the British Association of Spine Surgeons and British Scoliosis Society president's travelling fellowship to visit spinal centres including Plymouth, Exeter, Bristol, Oxford and Stoke Mandeville.

Mr Anderton is fully trained in all aspects of adult and paediatric spinal surgery and provides expert individualised spinal care using the latest techniques. He has been an NHS consultant since 2018 and works at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. He provides both acute and elective spinal care to adults and children.

Mr Anderton is actively involved with the teaching and training of junior doctors. He has completed a post-graduate diploma in Medical Education and has held a honorary clinical senior lecturer position at The University of Exeter.

Alex has been a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal surgeon since 2011 based at Royal Preston Hospital. The regional Major Trauma Centre and Spinal Hub, the hospital serves a catchment area of over 1.4 million people. He undertook all aspects of adult spinal surgery including deformity (scoliosis) surgery and complex spinal trauma.

Graham Chuter is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon in Sunderland, with a special interest in foot & ankle surgery. He graduated from Dundee University, trained in the Northern Deanery, and enjoyed a specialist fellowship in Melbourne. One of four F&A surgeons in the Trust, he has been heavily involved in education and training throughout his career; he is an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at Sunderland and Newcastle Universities, faculty and Director on many national and international courses and an Associate Editor of FootPrint. He is past Chairman of NOFAS, past secretary of the BOFAS Education Committee, and recently appointed as BOFAS Global Lead. He also enjoys playing as a band member of ToeJam

Rajesh Kakwani is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust. He specialises in Foot and ankle disorders including sports injuries.

He studied medicine and then did his post-graduation (Masters Degree) in Orthopaedics from the Mumbai University, India. He completed his MCh Orthopaedics degree from the University of Liverpool in 2006. He did his Higher Surgical Training from the Northern Deanery, gaining the FRCS (Orth) accreditation in 2012.

He was fellowship trained in foot and ankle surgery under Mr Ian Winson, at Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Bristol, United Kingdom, and under Mr Chris Blundell, Northern General Hospital, Sheffield. He was awarded the BOFAS (British Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Society) Travelling fellowship to the

Sigvard Hansen Foot and Ankle Unit in Seattle, USA – May 2014. He has successfully completed the AO Trauma fellowship under Prof. Krettek at Hannover, Germany in June 2011.

He is and has been a Clinical & Educational Supervisor, as well as the Surgical Training committee representative for the Orthopaedic Specialty Trainees and teaches in a variety of national and international courses.

He organised the ‘Foot & Ankle teaching term for the Health Education North East orthopaedic trainees (2017 & 2020) with fantastic reviews. The comments for the term have been ‘outstanding term and, to some extent, a new benchmark’.

He was awarded the ‘Trainer of the Year’ trophy in 2016-17 & again in 2019-20.

He is the Chair for the regional Orthopaedic Teaching Network (ONTEA).

He has served in the Education Committee of the British Foot & Ankle Society (BOFAS) and presently is a member of the BOFAS Scientific Committee.

Mr Kakwani is a member of the National Orthopaedic Selection Design group for recruitment of Orthopaedic trainees on to the higher surgical training programme.

He is an examiner for the FRCS (Tr & Orth) examinations.

He has authored numerous peer reviewed publications and has written may book chapters in reputed orthopaedic books.

Fellowship trained in Spinal Surgery

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon at the University Hospital of North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust. I completed my senior spinal fellowship at the Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham. I regularly teach Spinal topics to medical students, specialist nurses and resident doctors.

Anjani Singh is a Consultant Orthopaedic surgeon specialising in foot and ankle disorders at Liverpool University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. Having qualified as a doctor from Gulbarga University, India. he completed specialist surgical training in the North East of England, gaining the higher surgical qualification in Trauma & Orthopaedics. He completed a fellowship in Foot & Ankle surgery at Glasgow and was appointed as a Consultant in 2013.

Started as consultant in 2004 in Darlington Memorial Hospital and moved to South Tees in 2009.  Interested in complex upper limb trauma, general trauma and upper limb reconstruction of infection / non-union.
 

I am a Consultant Spinal Surgeon at a major UK teaching hospital, with expertise ranging from minimally invasive spinal procedures to complex revision surgery for trauma, tumours, deformity and degenerative conditions. I lead multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings and represents my trust at the Regional Spine Network, where I serves as Governance Lead. An enthusiastic educator, I teach regularly at the FRCS Orthopaedic Forum and support SAS doctors through dedicated leadership. I have published widely, including recent work in the Global Spine Journal, and reviews for the European Spine Journal. I am the  current Treasurer of the Society of Back Pain Research.

Amer Shoaib is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Manchester Royal Infirmary specialising in Foot and Ankle Surgery and Limb Reconstruction Surgery.
He qualified from St. George’s Hospital Medical School in London, and trained in Orthopaedic Surgery in the Welsh Deanery and Oswestry.
He is a member of the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society, as well as the British Limb Reconstruction Society and the European Foot and Ankle Society.
He has an interest in humanitarian medicine and has worked in several conflicts, and natural disasters, gaining a significant experience in the acute and reconstructive treatment of ballistic injuries. He was involved in the organisation and delivery of the orthopaedic response to the Manchester Arena bomb in 2017. He chairs the Orthocycle Foundation charity, which recycles orthotics and surgical equipment for use in less developed countries.
Amer has taught on many courses, including the BOFAS principles course and the BOA Boot Camp Course, and runs several courses in Manchester on Foot and Ankle Surgery and External Fixation.
He is married with four children, and enjoys fell walking and wild camping with them. He loathes static caravans.
