The Application Process
To apply for membership of the professional association for orthopaedic surgeons that represents some 40% of the entire UK surgical workforce and those abroad who have had orthopaedic training in the UK, we ask that all prospective members abide by our founding objectives and make themselves aware of the current rules by which the association is governed.
Fellow, Overseas Fellow and Member Applicants
Fellows, Overseas Fellows and Members are requested to provide two referees who are current Fellows of the British Orthopaedic Association. Once references and completed applications have been received, your application will go before an Executive Committee and if successful, the BOA Council for approval.
Medical Students, Foundation Years, SAS Surgeons, Associate Membership
Medical Students and Foundation Years are requested to provide a letter from their medical school/HR department confirming their placement. SAS Surgeons must submit a letter from their clinical director and associate member applicants are requested to provide a copy of a letter of appointment to a training programme. This will be asked for in an acknowledgement email once the application process has begun. All applications will also go before Council for approval.
