BOA Reviews
The BOA is committed to continuously improving patient care and promoting excellence in orthopaedic services. As part of this mission, we offer two essential service reviews: Care of Patients with Non-Ambulatory Fragility Fractures (NAFF) Reviews and Elective Care Reviews (ECRs).
Medico-legal Resources
Various resources including guidance documents on specific, topical medico-legal issues published by the BOA.
Radiation Exposure in Theatre and Associated Risks
A short life working group has been established to better understand the risks associated with radiation and breast cancer in female orthopaedic surgeons. This has involved work on identifying and understanding the risks and ways of providing better protection.
Orthopodcasts
Orthopodcasts are a series of podcasts addressing a wide variety of trauma and orthopaedic (T&O) topics, often not found elsewhere. Each Orthopodcast is a short conversation with an expert (10-15 minutes): not repetition of a book chapter or research paper, but dialogue that will be easy to listen to and digest.
Fracture Service Redesign: Patient Leaflets and Videos
The BOA Trauma Committee has collated a number of patient information leaflets and videos from those trusts with established trauma triage services to help colleagues involved in redesign of their own services.
Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT)
The Getting it Right First Time (GIRFT) programme is a national programme designed to improve the quality of care within the NHS by reducing unnecessary variation in services.
Beyond Compliance
The BOA has been working closely with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) over many years to help make decisions when a higher than the expected rate of failing replacement joints are identified.
Archived Projects
Previous projects the BOA have been involved with, to promote quality care for patients, include quailty improvement projects (HipQIP and QIST), and work with the emerging registries, called TORUS.
