In Partnership with the ABHI and new for 2023, we are pleased to launch our first Product Theatre at this year’s exhibition. Join us and discover the latest innovative products and solutions to the market, with a series of 20 minute presentations from serveral industry partners. The Theatre is located inside the Exhibitions Hall and will be taking place during refreshment and lunch breaks.
We have a great line up planned, with sessions from DePuy Synthes, Smith+Nephew, Orthofix and the ABHI who will discuss how the HealthTech industry is contributing towards the NHS Net Zero plan. The NHS Implant Analysis Service conducts independent physical analysis of used explanted medical devices and reports on their performance in patients. The focus of this service is to increase patient safety and drive outcome improvements.
In recent years, surgery has benefited from technological breakthroughs with the introduction of successive devices and procedures showing improved outcomes. Over time some of these innovative theoretical breakthroughs have had questionable durability in humans and some have led to catastrophic failure such as some metal on metal hip replacements and breast implants.
The UK has an enviable track record of clinical research and follow up in joint replacements. Much of this data, whilst very useful, does not include detailed physical analysis of the device performance. This service addresses the need for physical analysis and reporting whilst providing a robust, speedy service providing surgeons with an implant performance on devices removed from the human body, irrespective of the reasons for initial revision. The purpose is to provide assessment on all devices, whether the performance was as well as anticipated or not.

How is the Taurus walker fundamental in facilitating this?
Perceived barriers to early mobilisation following hip and knee arthroplasty have been identified. Patients have reduced confidence to walk independently and are reliant on waiting for physiotherapists to get them up first-time post op, leading to reduced efficiency in the ERAS programme.
Looking at early mobility with the use of a Taurus walker
- The patient’s perspective.
- Enabling a step through gait from the first step.
- Encouraging nurse led mobility immediately post op.
- Impact that this has on length of stay.

Session Title: Periprosthetic Proximal Femur Fractures: Do we know when to fix or replace?
The clinical and economical burdens associated with periprosthetic fractures have unfortunately become the latest epidemic within trauma and orthopaedic fracture management. Their volume continues to increase year on year, as does the fragility and frailty of the patients they affect, making them more and more complex to management effectively and efficiently.
Please join Mr Birender Kapoor from Liverpool University Hospitals NHS trust, for an engaging session as he touches upon the latest evidence regarding proximal femur periprosthetic fracture diagnosis and surgical management. This will include using a number of complex clinical case discussions from within his practice across trauma and revision hip arthroplasty, as well as an open forum to discuss the floors experiences in treating these complex fracture patterns in complex patients (as time allows!).
This session is supported by DePuy Synthes and the VA-LCP Periprosthetic Proximal Femur (PPFX) plating system.
