Providing education and hands-on workshop on paediatric trauma

This course teaches fundamental principles and current concepts in the treatment of patients with a need for primary arthroplasty in the hip and knee. This course is the initial step along the path of lifelong learning in the area of joint arthroplasty. Based on a patient-centered approach this course focuses on the key principles of primary arthroplasty, and is targeted at newly certified orthopedic surgeons and advanced orthopedic surgical trainees.

This important and timely conference will focus on improving care for hip fracture patients – learning from the September 2025 NHFD findings, and improving progress against the Key Performance Indicators and NICE quality standard for hip fracture. Through national updates and practical case studies the conference will highlight best practice in hip fracture care, improving the care pathway, patient experience and outcomes.

This annual specialist 3-day course from the Orthotic Research and Locomotor Assessment Unit (ORLAU) is designed for a wide range of clinicians including Orthopaedic Consultants and Senior Trainees, Rehabilitation Doctors, Physiotherapists, Orthotists, Clinical Scientists and other Allied Healthcare Professionals with an interest in gait. It provides a unique insight into why we walk the way we do. Delegates Learn about normal gait and how impairments can impact on this pattern of movement. It provides a mixture of lectures, practical workshops and patient case studies in small groups to help delegates understand and interpret video, 2-D video vector and 3-D gait analysis. A multi-disciplinary approach gives participants an awareness of how gait analysis can guide our management of mobility problems to improve patient outcomes. Faculty comprises Staff from ORLAU, & Keele University who have significant experience in teaching gait both nationally and internationally.

This course teaches current concepts in the treatment of patients with a need for revision or complex primary arthroplasty of the hip and knee. The course combines hands-on training with human anatomical specimens, interactive case discussions, and evidence-based lectures to refine your decision-making and surgical skills. The course is targeted at certified, experienced orthopedic surgeons who wish to enhance their knowledge and skills in complex arthroplasty.

It will teach you about neck of femur fractures and how to treat them. By the end of the course, you will be able to: Describe the blood supply of the femoral head Understand the difference between extracapsular and intracapsular fractures Choose the right fixation technique for each type of fracture Explain the biomechanics of different fixation methods Understand the evidence base for choosing between different fixation methods Perform a simulated dynamic hip screw fixation and a simulated cemented hip hemiarthroplasty under supervision

This year’s conference will include sessions on frailty, special patient circumstances, thromboembolism prophylaxis, day case robotics, ambulatory urgent surgery, and day surgery and the digital age. Workshop sessions will be held on post-operative pathways / criteria-led discharge, awake shoulder surgery and procedure room operating. The conference will also feature the ever-popular oral free paper presentations and the opportunity to showcase your work in the poster competition. The first day will finish with an evening networking drinks reception at the conference venue.
