New BOASt - Diagnosis and management of arterial injuries associated with musculoskeletal trauma

The BOA is pleased to publish its newest BOAST ‘Diagnosis and management of arterial injuries associated with musculoskeletal trauma’.

The BOA Standards Committee has produced this document, which is supported by the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeon (BAPRAS), and the Vascular Society for Great Britain and Ireland.

Background and justification: Accurate diagnosis and emergency surgical repair of arterial injuries associated with extremity musculoskeletal trauma is crucial for an optimum outcome. These are time critical emergencies with no safe ischaemic time; emphasis should, therefore, be on immediate revascularisation (NCEPOD 1).

This newly published BOASt replaces the previous arterial BOASt 'Diagnosis & Management of Arterial Injuries Associated With Extremity Fractures and Dislocations' which has now been archived.
