Government call for evidence to inform 10-Year Workforce Plan for health in England
The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has called for evidence to inform the anticipated revised 10-Year Workforce Plan that will mirror the 10-Year Health Plan for England published in July. The 10-Year Workforce Plan will replace the NHS Long Term Workforce Plan published by NHS England in June 2023.
The consultation does not simply ask how many staff are needed to maintain the current model of care, but given the reform agenda, what kind of workforce is needed, what roles should they play, where should they be deployed, and what skills will they require? The consultation criteria for evidence are with a view to developing an understanding of:
- the professions, roles and skills, including skills included and emphasised in training curricula, that will be critical to successfully implement the 3 shifts
- how specific professions, roles and skills may be impacted by the implementation of the 3 shifts (hospital to community, analogue to digital, and sickness to prevention) and the wider policy ambitions of the 10 Year Health Plan, while maintaining quality care for patients
- how the 10 Year Workforce Plan can support the government growth and opportunity missions
The BOA will make a submission.
Responses must be made online no later than 7th November 2025.
