NHS England Bone Cement Supply Update - Webinar for Orthopaedic Surgeons

Date: Monday 23rd February 2026
Time: 16:30 – 17:30
Location: Online

You are invited to attend an important national Q&A webinar meeting regarding the current disruption to the supply of bone cement products manufactured by Heraeus Medical.

This disruption follows a packaging fault which temporarily halted production at Heraeus’ main manufacturing site. Although production has now resumed, global availability will remain affected for at least two months. Stock currently within the UK supply chain is estimated to meet approximately two weeks of normal demand, after which there is expected to be a supply gap of approximately six to eight weeks. Independent sector provider partners are also affected.

NHS Supply Chain has been working closely with suppliers across the market and has identified two viable alternative bone cement products. Work is ongoing to secure sufficient stock and distribute these alternatives across the network to support continuity of patient care.

This meeting will:

  • Provide the latest update on the current supply position
  • Outline alternative products and their expected availability
  • Share key communications and operational guidance
  • Offer an opportunity to ask questions (please submit questions via the chat function during the meeting)

The meeting will be chaired by Professor Tim Briggs, National Director for Clinical Improvement and Elective Recovery.

Further information on supply and alternatives can be found on NHS Supply Chain’s dedicated webpage, which will be regularly updated.

Your attendance is strongly encouraged to support awareness and local planning during this period of supply disruption.

Kind regards,

The BOA Team
