Volunteer Opportunity: BOA Honorary Archivist

The British Orthopaedic Association is delighted to invite expressions of interest for the voluntary role of Honorary Archivist.

This is a rare and rewarding opportunity to help preserve, shape and share the history of trauma and orthopaedics and the story of the BOA as an institution. The Honorary Archivist will take a leading, hands-on role in developing and interpreting our archive, working with the BOA team and the Borthwick Institute for Archives (University of York).

We are looking for someone with experience in the specialty, a strong interest in its history, and the initiative to develop this important area of work. The role is flexible (approximately 3-6 hours per week), unpaid, with agreed expenses reimbursed. Applications are welcome from individuals or from two members wishing to share the role.

If you are passionate about the heritage of our profession and would like to contribute to safeguarding it for future generations, we would be very pleased to hear from you.

Please see the accompanying role description for full details.

To apply, please submit a letter of interest outlining your relevant experience and motivation to: [email protected]

Deadline for applying: 5pm 31 March 2026
