Education and Training
[Intro text]
Being a Good Trainer
Being a good trainer is one of the most important roles undertaken by a consultant. Training is not an optional extra or simply a series of forms on ISCP: it is a core professional responsibility that shapes patient safety, departmental culture and the future of the specialty.
Trauma and Orthopaedic Training
Training remains a central part of consultant practice. Modern postgraduate surgical education is capability-based: progression depends on demonstrated professional judgement, clinical and technical performance, and the ability to work safely with appropriate levels of supervision. Procedure numbers remain useful evidence of breadth and experience, but they do not by themselves establish competence.
