This conference provides a practical approach to preventing hospital acquired deconditioning in older adults, and moving beyond this to ensuring your patients are as active as possible and enabling reconditioning. It is widely recognised that hospital acquired deconditioning is a major issue in hospitals leading to functional decline, falls, readmissions, pressures on social care support and increase mortality. The conference will use case studies of best practice to support you to optimise safe activity for older people your service, and prevent both physical and cognitive deconditioning.

In response to the Governments Elective Recovery Plan and Get It Right First Time (GIRFT) programme, it is clear we must work differently to reduce variation and respond to these unprecedented waits. With continued pressure on in-patient beds, Day Case Total Hip Replacement Surgery presents an ideal opportunity to explore and expand the possibilities to increase day surgery activity.

This one-day event aims to review the concepts of early injury to the hip joint caused by morphological abnormalities and describe the development of surgical interventions to address them. It will provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the clinical presentations, investigation, and management through a series of lectures and video case presentations.

This course is designed for trainees in Hand Surgery (Orthopaedics and Plastics) irrespective of experience in K-wiring. Learn the sure and proper way of K-wiring and you will not need to do an ORIF ever again, saving you operating time and money. Also understand fluoroscopy and how to use it safely. This is a hands-on course, first with dry bones and then with cadaveric hands. Understand and Practise k-wiring without the pressure of time.

The main theme, “Innovations and Transdisciplinarity in the Orthopaedic Future,” reflects a future that is already the present for European orthopaedics and the National Societies represented by our Federation. This forward-looking approach is embedded in the involvement and training of young orthopaedic surgeons.

For the 3rd year in a row, the Harrogate Partial Knee Meeting returns in 2026. A two-day meeting focusing on Fixed-Bearing Unicompartmental and Patello-Femoral Arthroplasty. Following the recent NICE guidelines recommending UKA as a treatment modality that should be offered to suitable patients; a particular focus of the meeting will be how to safely grow a UKA practice whilst under the shadow of the NJR. Fixed-bearing partial knee arthroplasty is the gold standard for unicompartmental knee surgery combining outstanding patient outcomes and very low revision rates.

The Orthopaedic Institute is proud to deliver the next in a series of these long-running and highly popular courses which attract delegates from around the world. Convened by spinal surgeon, Mr David Jaffray and Foot and Ankle surgeon, Mr Andrew Bing this course is intended for orthopaedic trainees of all levels who are preparing for their FRCS (Tr&Orth) Examinations. Always over-subscribed, this is the most well-received course in the course calendar.

Prehabilitation, or prehab, is a proactive approach to optimising patient health before undergoing a procedure or treatment. Prehabilitation comprises multidisciplinary healthcare interventions, including exercise, nutritional optimisation, and psychological preparation, which aim to improve outcomes and readiness for surgery or cancer treatment, with the aim being to shorten the period of recovery, reduce complications, and improve the quality of recovery and quality of life.

This Symposium will have a specific focus on clinical decision making “What to Do, When to Do and When not to Do”with an expert International Faculty from all disciplines. We want to encourage open questions and robust discussion with input from surgeons, neurologists, rehabilitation physicians, occupational therapy, physical therapy and specialised nursing.

This year’s conference will include sessions on frailty, special patient circumstances, thromboembolism prophylaxis, day case robotics, ambulatory urgent surgery, and day surgery and the digital age. Workshop sessions will be held on post-operative pathways / criteria-led discharge, awake shoulder surgery and procedure room operating. The conference will also feature the ever-popular oral free paper presentations and the opportunity to showcase your work in the poster competition. The first day will finish with an evening networking drinks reception at the conference venue.
